Threads of Legacy: Treasures from Our Roots

Join us in experiencing our exhibit Treasures from Our Roots, a testament of family heirlooms and sentimental pieces that showcase rich culture and family heritage. Explore the family ties that intertwine our vastly different pieces. In this exhibit, we have on display not only what is visible to the eye but also a connection to the way in which family influences and shapes fashion. As you go through our exhibit notice the different textures and colours of the pieces. Take a closer look at the work that went into creating each object on display. In this collection that we have put together, we have an amber ring passed down from mother to daughter, a Cultivo de la vida dress crafted by a grandmother for her granddaughter, a Chunni (Scarf) given to me by my mother. A gho (Bhutanese Men’s National Dress) that was given to me by my grandfather. These pieces are linked in an exhibit that honours the lasting bonds of family, heritage, and culture through heirlooms that tell stories across generations. Let our display remind us of the things that truly bind us together, family history, and the legacies we continue to shape.

Retro Radiance

This exhibit honors the beauty and significance of cherished garments and jewelry passed down through generations of women. Each piece tells a unique story: a handmade sweater symbolizing warmth and care, a prom dress capturing youthful dreams, a mother’s necklace representing enduring family bonds, and a vintage dress with a matching coat from a grandmother, reflecting timeless elegance. Together, these items form a tapestry of memories and milestones, illustrating the strength, grace, and love that connect women across time.

Inherited Pieces From Around The World

‘Inherited Pieces From Around The World’ cultivates assorted pieces that have personal significance to each of the curators of this exhibit. These items have a rich history as they all originated outside of Canada and as the name would suggest, they were collected from around the world. Whether they were brought over through immigration, importation, or general travel, these items were brought to Canada and reflect the diversity of Canada as a melting pot of cultures.

Halfway There: A Journey of Attire

This exhibition explores the transformative power of clothing, from the grand gestures of a wedding dress to the intimate stories hidden in a simple sweater. Each garment is a chapter in a unique journey, a symbol of growth, love, and personal style. From vintage wedding accessories carrying the weight of history to beloved pants that have defied expectations, "Halfway There" celebrates the evolution of fashion and the stories they tell.

Echos of the Past: Stories Weaved into Fashion

The exhibit wishes to express sentiments contained within artifacts born out of our individual family histories. Each piece holds a different story, with much significance to our parents, grandparents, and/or our connections to them. These stories could be more or less anecdotal, nostalgic, or highly personal. Nonetheless, they will evoke a certain feeling out of the viewer in empathy with the people who own the piece.
Join us for an intimate exhibition that delves into the power of fashion as a vessel for memory and identity. "Echoes of the Past" presents four cherished items, each woven with personal and cultural significance that bridges generations and honors the individuals who carried them.
