Fragment No. 2

Vertical colour drawing made of pastel. The drawing shows a hallway with a teal blue/green floor. On the right side of the drawing, there is a yellow door with some grey at the top and bottom with a black frame. The wall by the door is white but as it goes towards the top of the image, there are two burgundy stripes with grey above and below. At the left, there is a black rectangle on the wall with grey above. In the grey spot, there are grey pipes and rectangles. Beside the black rectangle, there is part of the wall that protrudes out like a column. The column is multiple colours (teal, green, grey, navy blue, white, burgundy, beige, and tan) in various spots. Beside the column, the wall imposes but then protrudes slightly out again. On the imposed side, there is a grey rectangle and a beige rectangle on the protruding wall. Above the column and rest of the wall towards the white, the wall is tan until the edge of the image with a black line near where the silver turns into the beige. The whole image is surrounded by a white border and it has a line of text at the bottom right. The image is within a copper coloured frame.

Vertical painted image on a wood panel with a glued printed image. The painting at the top (about one-third of the painting) is black. The rest of the painting is yellow and grey forming the moon’s surface. The moon is rounded and creates a semi circle within the black paint. On the moon’s surface there are three craters near the semi circle. These craters have lines stemming from them for a few cm. Closer to the bottom of the painting, somewhat off centre to the left, there is a printed black and white image of a building (G building). The building appears to be a four storey made of bricks and has many windows. On one side of the building, there is a tower with a pointed roof and stairs at the bottom leading up to an arched entrance. The rest of the roof is slated towards to the sides and had multiple chimneys.

Pickin’ Chicken 1984

Horizontal coloured ink wash painting. The top of the image has a blue sky with white clouds. In the middle of the image, is a white building. The building has two storeys and two sides are visible. The top of the building has a red stripe all the way across. On the front side, a bird sits near the left and two antennas on either side. The other side has a grey chimney reaching from the top of the first floor to the roof. The front side has two upper windows with red panels on the bottom and the other side has four windows with red panels as well. Below the windows are red overhang lights that hang over a yellow sign that stretches across both sides with the name of the restaurant and two chickens. On the other side of the building, there is a red sign with part of the restaurant name and another red sign above. On the front, there are two three-paneled windows with red frames on the first floor and on the other side, there is one three-paneled window with a white and red overhang and one one-paneled window. The other side also has two potted plants in front and a door on the edge. In front of the building are five white Volkswagen Beetles (four of which have a sign on the roof and red writing on the side) on grey pavement. To the left of the building, is a white wooden fence in front of a tree and a brown building. To the right of the building, is a set of tracks with a red and yellow streetcar coming around a curve with wires above and an electricity pole beside it. The painting is in a black frame.

Colour horizontal ink wash painting. The top part of the photo is unpainted. In the middle is a brown brick building. The building is two storeys high with a grey slanted roof. The roof on the right side has a brown chimney. Beside the chimney is a tower where the two sides meet with three floors. The tower has a curved white roof and white framed windows. The tower is brown brick at the top but had brown and white paneling below. The bottom of the tower has a white door. On one side of the building, there are eight white framed windows. On the front side of the building, there is a balcony with a white fence and white posts from the overhang on the first and second floor. On the balcony are two people near the tower. There are two more people beside the tower on the roof. Between the posts on the first floor, a green plant hangs. In front of the building are white stairs. Beside the building on the left, is a white driveshed with four windows and three arched entrances. The drive-shed has a grey roof with a brown chimney. Beside the driveshed is a penciled tree and fence. In front of the building, there are three horse and buggies and a few people walking. To the right of the building is a white street sign. The bottom of the painting is light brown. The painting is in a black frame.

Horizontal colour landscape painting. The upper section of the painting is green fading into yellow. On the left side of the page, there is a city skyline of tall rectangular buildings and a taller skinny building with a circular piece about one-third from the top. In front of the city skyline is a cluster of dark coloured trees to the left edge. In front of the skyline and trees is an oval-like shape pond reflecting the colour of the sky (orange, yellow, and white details) and the trees. Over the water towards the right side, there is a dark coloured bird. On the right side of the painting is a grey vertical path leading from the bottom right corner to about one-third from the top. Around the path and water, there are green trees and some orange leafed trees. In the sky beside the orange tree, there are two dark coloured bird flying. Between the trees and water on the water’s right edge, there is a brown edge with darker crack-like details. Slightly above there is a white bird flying horizontally to the right side. In front of the water at the bottom right and centre side, there is long dark lines of grass with some yellow and pink details. At the bottom right, there is a hand-written name.

Lakeshore 1968

Rectangular hard back book with a burgundy coloured fake leather/paper binding. The front cover has the year and school name going vertically down the left side in a yellow/gold colour. The front cover from about 1/3 from the left to the opposite end has embossed/pressed circles and diamonds. The back cover has a leather like pattern with the makers mark on the bottom right. Inside the book has around 115 pages with black and white text and pictures. The end sheets are a yellow/gold colour.

Lake Shore Road and Long Branch Car

Front: Colour photograph postcard of the Long Branch streetcar on Lakeshore Road. Dirt road is centred in image with streetcar on tracks to left. One man appears to be disembarking. Trees flank the road on either side, and a low wooden fence is prominent along the right side of the road. Behind the fence in the foreground is a telephone pole – two more poles can be seen further in the background. Also behind the fence is a view of the lake. At the top of the postcard, printed over the sky towards the right side is the title: “Lake Shore Road and Long Branch Car, Toronto, Ontario.” In the lower left corner is the identifying code: “104.069” and in a small circle the letters “JV.”

Back: Divided back. Some printed text identifies the maker as Valentine & Sons Publishing. Handwritten text in blue ink on left hand side of card. Some brown marks from centre to right hand side.

Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanatorium)

Front: Coloured, printed postcard. Depicts about a blue sky with some white clouds, eight red brick buildings with blueish-grey roofs, a large field, and 13 cricket players. The field is green but at the forefront of the image, there is a gravel path. The cricket players are all dressed in white. “Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanitorium), Toronto, Canada” is in printed text on top right. Bottom right of the image reads “JV” in a circle with the number “104,072”. Top half of the postcard (horizontal) has a handwritten message in black, faded ink.

Back: Printed text at top middle reads “Souvenir Post Card.” To the left of the postage stamp is a postmark that reads “Milton West, AM, OC 13, 09, ONT”. Bottom right has handwritten address for receiver. Left half of back has handwritten message, upside down. Left side underneath written message is printed text which reads “The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co., Ltd. Montreal and Toronto. Printed in Great Britain.” It bears a 1903 King Edward VII 3/4 profile 1 cent stamp.
