Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanatorium)

Front: Coloured, printed postcard. Depicts about a blue sky with some white clouds, eight red brick buildings with blueish-grey roofs, a large field, and 13 cricket players. The field is green but at the forefront of the image, there is a gravel path. The cricket players are all dressed in white. “Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanitorium), Toronto, Canada” is in printed text on top right. Bottom right of the image reads “JV” in a circle with the number “104,072”. Top half of the postcard (horizontal) has a handwritten message in black, faded ink.

Back: Divided back. Some printed text identifies the maker as Valentine & Sons Publishing. There is no message on the back.

The buildings get taller from bottom of the photo to the top.

In front of the building, there is a road with multi-coloured cars in front. Behind the building and the very right edge, are trees with green leaves. At the bottom, there is a line of yellow text.

Back: Plain white back. There is a line of vertical text down the centre which divides the postcard. There is a paragraph of text on the left side and a few lines of text on the right.

The beautiful new Seaway Towers Motor Hotel

Front: Colour photo. The image shows the street view of a building. The building has two parts, a short brown brick part on the left, and a twelve-storey white tower section on the right. The brown section has white text across the front and a section to the left of the text which is black with three windows. On the roof of the brown section, there is a black fence around the building and a pink rounded tent. The white tower section is rectangular and has various windows and balconies throughout. The first floor of the white tower had white pillars. In front the of the whole building, there is a parking lot with multi-coloured cards. At the edge of the parking lot, there is a strip of grass with light posts and around the light posts are multi-coloured flags on a string. Behind the building on the lower right are some green trees and the rest of the background is a blue sky with a few white clouds.

Back: Divided blank back. There is some blue text across the top with a rectangle in the right corner. There is a vertical line of text in the middle dividing the page.

Lake Shore Boulevard office on the Boardwalk

Front: A colour image of a white square building with a brown slanted roof along a wooden boardwalk. The building has yellow, blue, and red striped overhangs above the windows. On the front of the building, there is a door, a union jack flag on a pole at the top of the point formed by the roof, and brown vertical and horizontal stripes within the triangle section. Around the building, there are some flowers and plants. Around the building and boardwalk, there is green grass. Behind the building, there is a blue sky with white clouds, a blue body of water, and a yellow beach.

Back: Beige blank back divided back. There is a double line down the center of the page and a short double line in the centre along the top. There is a vertical rectangle in the top right corner. There are a couple of lines of text down the left edge. At the bottom centre, there is a coat of arms and some text.

Public School Mimico

Front: Black and White Photograph – of Mimico Public School of a medium sized stone school building with a bell towers surrounded by large trees. The photograph image is bordered by a large white border and the text on the border reads, “Mimico Public School”

Back: Divided back postcard, bears a personal message from Muriel to Elizabeth, handwritten in blue ink. It is postmarked both Mimico and Lucknow, Ontario and bears a 1903 King Edward VII 1 cent stamp. The stamp is positioned upside down and on a slight diagonal, with the corner that would usually be found in the upper right presently forming the lowest point of the diamond.

2015.001.02a: Door
Side one (display side): Green paint on wood with two long upper panes and two small lower panes. Opening in left side for doorknob fixture. The green paint is chipped to reveal brown on the upper right pane and the two lower panes. Number “4” written on the upper right pane. Green paint is chipped to reveal a pale green area covering about 1/5 of the upper left pane. Side two (non-display side): Light pink/white paint on wooden door. Mirror of side one with two long upper panes and two small lower panes. Paint is chipped on upper left pane to reveal white, blue and brown. Number “4” written on upper right pane. Paint is chipped to reveal white throughout the lower left pane.

2015.001.02b: Doorknob
Two cylinder gold pieces that tapers towards the opposite knob but then the base of the cylinder is larger. The two gold cylinders (knobs) are connected by two silver cylinders (one in the middle and one on one side of the middle one). Beside the middle silver connecting cylinder, there is another silver cylinder but is only attached to one of the gold pieces. The side silver cylinder connected to both pieces is smooth around on the side of knob but as it connects to the other, it has a spiral design engraved in. Between both knobs, there is a thicker silver cylinder at a ninety-degree to the smaller silver pieces. It has holes in it for the smaller cylinders to go through. At the end of the thicker cylinder, there is a metal rectangular piece, silver with rounded circles on one side, and green on the other. The green side has a rounded triangle prism attached.

2015.001.02c: Butt Hinge
Two metal rectangular pieces attached by alternating cylinder like rectangles. Each rectangle has four holes. On one side of the rectangles, the metal is gold for most of the area but where they meet in the middle is painted a light green. On one side corner, there are multiple lines of engraved text. On the other side of the rectangles, one piece is painted brown and the other is mostly white with some beige on the edge and where the two pieces meet is painted a light green.

Fire Hose Reel

Metal fire hose reel composed on two spider reels connected via metal bars and spindle trunnion. A pipe is attached to the trunnion where a water hose can be attached. A series of pipe elbows are connected to the trunnion pipe leading to an attached water valve. The exterior of the outward-facing reel spider is painted red and displays an inscription about the item’s patent, inventor, and place of origin.

2015.001.03a: Radiator
Silver metal radiator with a steam trap. The radiator has four rounded legs (two on each side) which slant outwards slightly and a circle near the end. The rest of the radiator is made of two horizontal metal pipes and eight vertical oval pipes spaced equally around the two horizontal pipes. Along the side of the vertical pipes, there is a metal seam which runs from top to bottom. On the left side, there is a slightly protruding circle at the top with a hexagon with a gold inner circle protruding out of it. Also on the left side, there is a slightly protruding circle at the bottom with a hexagon with a letter inside of it protruding out of it. On the right side, there is a slightly protruding circle at the top with a hexagon with a letter inside of it protruding out of it. Also on the right side, there is a slightly protruding circle at the bottom with a hexagon within and a steam trap protruding from the side. The steam trap is a darker silver. It is attached to the radiator through a pipe with a large hexagon at one end and the steam trap on the other. The body of the steam trap has a hexagon on top with text, a large oval sphere with a circular band across the middle, and a cylindrical pipe pointing down.

2015.001.03b: Radiator, partial
Partial piece of the radiator. The piece is brown metal. The base of the piece has a hollow circle with circular ridges. The base then connects to the larger part which is circular. The larger part is round in the middle, on the right it slants in slightly but then widens to a hexagon with a rounded top, and on the left, it widens to a circle with a flat side and continues to shrink to smaller hexagons with flat sides for two more times until it ends with a small smooth circle pipe.

2015.001.03c: Radiator, partial
Partial piece of the radiator. The piece is metal and painted partially white. The base of the piece is made of two curved bars attached by large screws and washers at their ends and when connected, the two bars create a hexagon shape in their centre. Attached to one of the bars is a circular piece with a hole in the middle. The hole protrudes out and on the outer edge, has ridges along the piece.
