Scope and content

Date stamp made of metal and rubber on the bottom half and wood on the top half. The half has an egg-shaped red handle which is flat on the front and has gold writing. The handle is attached to a horizontal piece of silver metal which curves downwards on the front and back sides. On the left and right of the horizontal metal, there is a rectangular piece of silver metal which narrows as it goes down. Held within the metal pieces are four moveable bands made of grey rubber with words and numbers on them. Between the metal frames and bands, there is a white gear.

Accompanying material

Trodat is an Austrian company which began operations in 1912 by Franz Just and his wife. The two started by boiling stamping ink on their stove and saved their earnings to open their first business as stamp manufacturers in Vienna. In 1960, his son Walter Just registered the Trodat product brand. Trodat is made up of the syllables Tro and Dat. Tro stands for trolitul - a plastic that was used to make stamps - and dat is an abbreviation for date stamp.
