Urban Legend

Vertical colour document. The background of the image is black. The top of the image has multiple rows white text. Below in the middle of the page is a black and white photo of an eye with a hazel colour over the iris. The eye is surrounded by what appears to be a tear in a piece of paper. On the design around the eye, there are six people (three on the left, and three on the right). Between the people, there are some lines of text. Below the people is two lines of white text for the title. Below the title are multiple lines of white text. The document is held within a black frame.

Lake Shore Road and Long Branch Car

Front: Colour photograph postcard of the Long Branch streetcar on Lakeshore Road. Dirt road is centred in image with streetcar on tracks to left. One man appears to be disembarking. Trees flank the road on either side, and a low wooden fence is prominent along the right side of the road. Behind the fence in the foreground is a telephone pole – two more poles can be seen further in the background. Also behind the fence is a view of the lake. At the top of the postcard, printed over the sky towards the right side is the title: “Lake Shore Road and Long Branch Car, Toronto, Ontario.” In the lower left corner is the identifying code: “104.069” and in a small circle the letters “JV.”

Back: Divided back. Some printed text identifies the maker as Valentine & Sons Publishing. Handwritten text in black ink addresses the card to Staunton Virginia, with a note from an unnamed writer to Mr. Guy Kyle. It is postmarked July 15, 1910 in Toronto, Ontario at 8pm. It bears a 1903 King Edward VII 3/4 profile 1 cent stamp.

Mohawk Institute, Brantford, Canada

Front: Colour picture of the Mohawk Institute. The top of the image is a blue sky with some white clouds. In the middle of the image is a mostly red brick (but with some grey bricks along the bottom) building with white trim and a grey roof. The building has many windows. In the centre of the building, there are stairs leading to a door surrounded by white pillars. The white pillars extend from the ground to the roof and on the second floor, appears to also include balconies. There are four chimneys on the roof, two closer to the left and two on the right. In front of the building is a tan path way extending from the bottom corner to the stairs. The rest of the space in front of the building is green grass. On the right side, there is a green leafed tree. In the upper left of the postcard, printed over the trees, text on the image reads: “Mohawk Institute, Brantford, Canada.”

Back: Divided back. Some printed text identifies the maker as Stedman Bros. Limited along the left side. There is text along the top and a rectangle with text in the upper right corner. Below is the divided back with lines and text. No letter was written on the card.

To the right of the image is a large shrub that covers part of a large red brick building with peaks and many windows. The lawn features several small flower beds and a light tan stone or dirt walkway. At the end of the walkway, what looks to be a human figure can be seen, possibly a statue. In the upper left of the postcard, printed over the trees, text on the image reads: “Grounds and Office. Mimico Asylum, Toronto, Canada.” In the lower right corner is the identifying code “104 071” and in a small circle the letters “JV.”

West Point Inn

Front: Black and White photo of West Point Inn Restaurant, half-tone printed. The picture shows the street view of the restaurant (white building with black window overhangs, one storey) with seven cars parked in front of it. A blurred figure of a woman in a white dress is also seen crossing the parking lot at the left of the postcard. A white border surrounds the photograph with black text at the bottom.

Back: The back of the postcard is beige. The postcard is divided into almost two parts with a line dividing it vertically with a horizontal line at the top of the vertical. There is text on the left side of the divide and above the horizontal line. At the right corner, there is a rectangle with text.   

Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanatorium)

Front: Coloured, printed postcard. Depicts about a blue sky with some white clouds, eight red brick buildings with blueish-grey roofs, a large field, and 13 cricket players. The field is green but at the forefront of the image, there is a gravel path. The cricket players are all dressed in white. “Mimico Asylum (Lakeside Sanitorium), Toronto, Canada” is in printed text on top right. Bottom right of the image reads “JV” in a circle with the number “104,072”. Top half of the postcard (horizontal) has a handwritten message in black, faded ink.

Vertical black and white image. About two-thirds of the poster is a black, pink, and white image of a partially visible face on the right side and on the left a black outlined horse’s face near the top and one or two pink figured which look like chalk-like drawings. The background of the image is black and there is some white text at the top and the title in white near the bottom. The image and the rest of the poster is white background with some black text at the bottom. The document is within a black frame.

Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol

Vertical colour document. The background of the page is blue with some white clouds at the bottom. The image on the page is a group of nine people within the basket of a hot air balloon. The balloon is at the top left corner (partially cut off) and has red and orange stripes. Within the opening of the balloon, some metal and wood pieces are seen coming out. Beside the balloon on the right, there is a white and grey bird with its wings pointing upwards. The basket is brown and appears as if it was made out of wicker. There is one figure who is hanging outside of the basket wearing a yellow shirt, jeans, and one white shoe, the other shoe is to the left of his left foot. On the left in the basket, there is a figure in a leather jacket, a white scarf, and a helmet holding a gun with ammunition rows hanging off his arm. Beside the ammunition, there is another white and grey bird flying with its wings pointing upwards. In the basket above the man with the yellow shirt, there is a figure holding onto the basket with one hand and above the figure is another with his hand in a salute gesture. To the left of the salute, there is another figure with his arm down holding onto the yellow shirt. To the right of the saluting figure, there is a figure with sun glasses, a partly open shirt, and a fun in her hand. Below is a figure with his tie hanging down the side of the basket and a megaphone in his hand. Below the megaphone is a police hat with a spot of white on it. Above the figure with the megaphone, is another holding a small gun with both hands. The figure on the right of the balloon is in a suit and tie holding a pair of binoculars. Below the balloon are a few lines of blue text at the bottom right corner.
